Guiltless Pleasure
The air of righteousness can be stifling. But if you can handle the self-loathing that comes with visiting this cut-price café, it’s well worth the anguish. Until recently, Amnesty offered diners a ham toastie with a mild seasoning of virtue; they have now twigged that good ciabatta and panini recipes, as well as fresh tuna rolls (christened ‘Nemo’ in a moment of rare tastelessness) will better serve the fight against oppression. Just about anything they do with Parma ham is worth trying, and their orange juice is fresh enough to choke on the pips. If you get bored listening to world music, ogling at the attractive-in-an-unconventional-way staff and flicking through politely subversive pamphlets, you can entertain yourself by asking nicely for a can of Coca-Cola. Go on, I dare you.
