Bar Bella
An old favourite. The all-Italian staff is warm and generous and the food is consistently good. This is part of the domain of Stefano Crescenzi and Davide Izzo, the team behind Dunne & Crescenzi and Nonna Valentina. We love the cheap-as-chips minestrone soup (€4.90) and the antipasti misti (€8.50). And if there’s homemade gnocchi on the specials list, risk a scalding and grab it with both hands. Wonderful coffee. The small dining room has a comforting Italian feel: lots of yelling, clanging and hand gestures. On a nice day, sit outside. There’s a sister branch in Mick Wallace’s Italian Quarter across the Quays – it’s slightly more formal, but the food is equally good and the wine selection is better.

Delicious, simple, fresh food, well priced and great service. An authentic Italian experience.
