Ross is Boss
An unfailingly high standard of cooking, impeccable surroundings, some of the best service in this – or any other – city. The venerable AA Gill reckoned the stuffed rabbit (€34) in Chapter One was “one of the best things I’ve eaten for a good long time”; we chose the Spring Lamb Plate (€34) as one of our 40 Best Things to Eat in Dublin. In fairness, any one of the dishes here could compete. They’ve introduced a chef’s table in the kitchen since our last edition – every Dublin foodie’s dream. Last year our Chef’s Chef award – as voted by his peers – went to Dylan McGrath. Sadly, Mint closed not too long after. If the same happens to Ross, we’re giving up altogether.

I have been going to Chapter One for nearly ten years now. It is a really special place and I have celebrated many of the most important events of my life there, such as graduations, new jobs, Valentines Day, anniversaries etc. What I love about Chapter One is that whether you are 21 or 101, you are treated with respect and manners. I have never had a disappointing meal there and as a meat lover who lives with a vegetarian (therefore rarely gets to eat meat at home) I look forward to their beef dishes with great anticipation. They should be complimented for their consistency and welcoming atmosphere. That's why they are no.1 in my books.

hits all the 1's; Number one for service, Number one for quality, Number one for atmosphere and it's even in Dublin 1!

The best restaurant "on the northside" in a "grim" location? Chapter One is one of the best, if not the best, restaurant in the whole city. It is located in one of the most historic areas of the city. Perhaps the reviewer dislikes the Gate Theatre, the Hugh Lane Gallery, the Dublin Writers Museum....
I walk past it twice a day, I live nearby and I eat there as often as possible! Perhaps the reviewer would feel better wrapped in cottonwool in, say, Dalkey, far from the scary northsiders!!

Chapter One is one of the nicest places to spend a well deserved treat or special occasion,I rang looking for a reservation on a tuesday night a couple of years ago for 3,not realising it was valentines night the front of desk gently reminded me what the date was but assured me we would be most welcome(3 ladies) of course we rebooked a different night but their charming manner and outstanding food stood out among a lot of other places ,they have just got it...!!!!
