Upmarket Pub Grub
Gerry Fitzpatrick is a member of the mighty Fitzpatrick clan, who brought the kiwi to Camden Street before opening a string of so-so restaurants. We are not exactly fêted in Fitzers, after daring to say the bleedin’ obvious once too often. No great hardship. After years in the family business, Gerry opened this upscale diner for people (like us) who couldn’t be bothered to walk to the Elephant and Castle in Temple Bar. To be fair, Gerry has an eye for a good-looking waitress, the food is usually tasty and the prices are not unreasonable. Roast half chicken comes with plenty of stuffing, thick gravy and lashings of Dauphinoise potatoes (€17.95). Good lunchtime specials, with plenty of pasta, salad, veggie and meat options for only €10.

I seem to find myself in Chatham Brasserie on a weekly basis these days. It's central location and great value early bird menu make it the obvious choice for a mid week catch up with friends. It's got a buzzing atmosphere, friendly and efficient service and chicken wings as good as Elephant and Castle. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, when I visited Tuesday ALL bottles of wine were half price. What more could you possibly want?!
