Gay Byrne, Pat Kenny and Ryan Tubridy dined here in advance of Tubs’ first Late Late Show. Was it to give the newcomer advice? Or to plan world domination? We’ll never know, but perhaps Olivier Meisonnave does. In his cosy basement restaurant, named after his French hometown, Olivier and head chef Conor Dempsey keep things simple, working their dishes around a main ingredient and three additional flavours. Try the sauteed scallops with cauliflower puree and langoustine jus (€17), followed by roast Mallard duck with foie gras, bacon and Savoy cabbage (€27). There are a whopping 285 wines to choose from; the proprietor, who managed Thorntons for years, will happily guide you to the right one.

Hmm I may have all the legal knoelwdge of an extra on Matlock but this walks, smells and quacks like some species of litigious water fowl.
