Once-Hip Hotel
Hugh O’Regan’s first hotel project is still one of the city’s more stylish addresses. It feels neither as youthful as it once did nor quite as chic. However, it remains a popular spot for cocktails among “30-45 years old with good disposable income.” (Gavin Lambe-Murphy is a regular. Seriously.) The restaurant never seemed to live up to the rest of the hotel’s standards. But a recent facelift and the arrival of Richie Wilson, previously of Thornton’s, are encouraging signs. Halo is large, warm, lively when it’s full (and all too lonesome when it’s not). The signature dish is a roast five spice magret duck breast with tortellini of confit duck leg, sherry vinegar and orange sauce (€26.95).
