Heatwave
It takes a lot to convert the steak and chips brigade but Indian Summer now has them wolfing down plates of Goan fish curry (€18.50) and lamb jalfrezi (€16.95). The upstairs dining room is open and spacious, full of warm colours that brighten the mood on a cold winter evening. In August. We told the waiter to bring us the best things on the menu: he returned with Kashmiri rogan josh (€15.95), lamb with yoghurt, brown onion and saffron; kadhai jheenga (€17.50), stir-fried prawns with peppers, onions and masala; and Tariwala kukad (€16.00), home style chicken curry from Punjab. I drank a toast to a fiery meal and managed to break the delicate stem of my glass. The Irish palate is finally awake to the delights of the sub-continent. Time to invest in less dainty glassware.
