Good ethnic restaurants in Dublin are still thin on the ground. Malaysian ones more so. Alex Hosey opened Langkawi in 1984, when it must have seemed a curiosity indeed. Langkawi is not exceptional but at least it’s honest, by which we mean the food is ‘of the region,’ uncomplicated, un-mucked about with and in no way dumbed down. The ambience is clubby; management and staff have a way of making people feel welcome so the restaurant has built up a loyal following. Latterly prices seem to have escalated, making Langkawi not quite the value-for-money trip it once was. The provision of coffee as the third course in a three-course lunch seems a bit of a nose-thumb too.

The best asian cuisine I've tasted in Dublin by far. Genial staff. Great decor
