Darkness
Wow. It’s dark in here. There’s little you can do with such a small, cavernous brick chamber, but to Oliver Hughes’ credit – you’ll appreciate this once your eyes adjust – he didn’t fight City Hall with tons of bright LEDs, opting instead for intimate nightlights and candles everywhere to create a Spanish bodega feel. Flattering light... great for dates! There are about 20 tapas dishes to try, divided into frio (cold), caliente (hot) and pinchos. Standout dishes are the frango piri piri (chargrilled chicken wings, €4.50) and pulpo a la Gallega (Gallixian octopus, €9). You’ll have a wait for a table on Fridays and Saturdays, as they don’t take bookings – put your name down and hop across to Grogan’s for a swift half. Younger sister Bar Pintxos on Eustace Street, Temple Bar, is much the same deal, but with thrones for toilets. Yes, you read that right.

The atmosphere is so lovely, the wine list is great, the staff I have encountered are all friendly and helpful, the food is delicious and it's really reasonable. Wins on all fronts for me.

Although I have been in some of Dublin's finest dining greats, nothing beats the Port House for a great glass (or bottle) of wine along with ridiculously well priced tapas. All in a great atmosphere with great staff. You just can't beat it
