Bunker Grub
Charlie Guilbaud opened this bistro-in-a-basement at the tender age of 27. It’s a large, expensively-decorated venture. Unfortunately, the subterranean interior just doesn’t feel cosy or lovable. We’ve moaned about this repeatedly, although papa’s prominence in the business ensures that such gripes are rarely heard outside The Dubliner. “It seems set to become one of the country’s most fashionable restaurants,” gushed Tom Doorley. That was in 2006. Venu may yet become the most fashionable restaurant in Ireland – and the cooking is good solid bistro fare at decent prices – but we remain ambiguous about the venue. Mind you, the cocktails are fantastic.
