Beshoff the Best
Looking out over the sea while eating its tastiest inhabitants is fun. Howth is a hotbed for fish lovers, but manager Matt Dillon (sadly not that Matt Dillon) of Ivans says there’s a healthy rivalry between local restaurants. But what sets this one apart is the Beshoff name and tradition, and, of course, the views. Seafood plates at other venues around this scenic part of the county (no names) can aim for inventive and end up fussy. Ivans bucks that trend with the yellow fin tuna (€17.95) and fish pie (€16.95) – both dishes have nothing to prove except their taste. Handy fact: the eponymous Ivan Beshoff was a survivor of the 1905 mutiny on the Russian battleship Potemkin.
