Dinner for a Song
Don’t be afraid when searching for this little charmer. Hidden off the top of Capel Street, Jade is at its best late at night, catering for large karaoke-focused rabbles. Unlike the posh Southside karaoke bars, these guys don’t charge for the use of the rooms. You are left alone in (spartan) surroundings with a buzzer to call for help if you or the video machine goes on the blink. Food is good, plentiful and refreshingly odd: are they the only restaurant in the city to serve fried dumplings? Order the yu-xiang aubergines, the spicy fish stew and the twice-fried pork. Cheap! And don’t feel embarrassed when you’re leaving – you weren’t half as rowdy as we were.
