In is the new out
At the parent branch on Clarendon Street, the question does come up – waiting for a table amidst the slick décor, trendy cocktail in hand – is the Saba brand more style than substance? That question is answered, and with conviction, by this takeaway-only Viet-Thai offshoot.
So much colour, freshness, and flavour doesn’t belong cooped up in cardboard boxes. Pattaya bursts with strips of tender duck and Tuk Tuk soup burns away your late spring sniffle. It takes a deft hand with the deep fryer for calamari to be tender and tempura still crispy after the 15-minute walk home.
The shop itself is cool and low key, stocked with reasonable wines and overpriced sweets. Of course, we half-expect the quality to be trampled by the crowds now that they’ve started delivering (just last week, within a two-mile radius).
For now, as they share a wall with Bombay Pantry, Rathmines is officially the best place to stay in with a few vids on a Friday.
