Dublin: Creative City?
Feeling creative? Good. You're in the right place.
On Thursday, October 18th, there will be a one-day conference entitled “Dublin: Creative City Region” in the Royal College of Physicians, Kildare Street.
Many cities around the world, including Edinburgh, Bologna, Seville, Santa Fe, Berlin and Buenos Aires, are now branding themselves as “Creative Cities.” They are increasing investment in creativity, hoping to strengthen the cultural fabric of their city.
By harnessing the creative capacity – often focusing on one area of excellence such as music, cinema, gastronomy, literature, folk art, design, media arts – they not only push their city into the future and increase the economy, but also protect industries that can otherwise struggle in the modern world.
The Dublin conference will discuss the concept of the Creative City, giving examples of international success stories. It will look at the potential of Dublin to be a Creative City, and identify the initiatives that could be taken to ensure that our city is a leading player in the global creative economy.
Speakers include Professor Richard Florida, a peerless expert on the creative economy and author of The Rise of the Creative Class and The Flight of the Creative Class; Minister for the Environment John Gormley; Professor Joyce O’Connor of the Digital Hub and Gianluca Monte, author of the European Commission study, ‘The Economy of Culture in Europe.’
The conference costs €350 and places are limited. To book, click here. To learn more about Creative Cities around the world, visit this website
