The Lisbon Treaty: What's it all about?

Frankly, we haven't a clue. But we know someone who does...

We held a very successful debate in the Odessa Club a couple of weeks ago. (Ten word summary: Is there a God? Discuss. Then retire to the bar.) So we're planning another evening of verbal fisticuffs in the same venue.

It's a similar deal: turn up at 7pm tonight, watch an argument, drink Tiger Beer. This time, however, the subject is the Lisbon Treaty. The timing could not be better, as the actual vote is on Thursday, and it's about time that you got to grips with what you're voting for... or against.

The debonair Mr Pat Leahy of the Sunday Business Post will introduce proceedings with a ten-minute idiot's guide to the Lisbon Treaty, before throwing the debate open to two sets of speakers.

On the 'Vote Yes' side we have Ruairi Quinn and Lucinda Creighton, while the 'Vote No' team is composed of Naoise Nunn and Killian Forde. It promises to be a most dramatic evening, and if nothing else you will come away with a whole new set of crazy opinions with which to impress total strangers on the LUAS.

If you'd like two free tickets to the event, email rsvp@thedubliner.ie now.

P.S We're grateful to Tiger Beer for providing the refreshments, to the Odessa Club for hosting the event, and to Libertas for helping us to put together a cracking line-up.

after the irish 'no' everybody tries to explain and many foolish things are said e.g. 'the irish people have no idea of the treaty' or 'they just wanted to take revenge on their government'

so i'd like to get some personal statements from people who voted 'no' and publish them in my weblog
